>> if you're heading out for the holiday, whether you're traveling to the airport braving the roads or taking a train we have complete coverage this morning. >> good morning, it's 4:30 on this wednesday, november 26th. here's was want to say, dave murphy and karen rogers. good morning. >> all right, guys, taking a wide look on storm tracker 6 live double scan you can see rain has overtaken the region most of this from about philadelphia north is on the light side. so, creating a lot of drizzle and light rain. also i'll point out to you that the cold air hasn't really pushed to the east yet so the only changeover we have is in there upper elevations of central and western pennsylvania. we have a winter storm warning that's posted until 10 o'clock tonight in all the counties you see highlighted in pink here. these are the areas where we expect the road conditions to be the worst as we change over from rain to wet snow later this morning we could see slushy roads develop and slick road conditions.

in the advisory area you'll have visibility problems when that changeover occurs and of course you'll have a lot of rain but it looks like just wet roads in these areas down to the south from philadelphia up until about halfway up bucks and montgomery county. precipitation type today, mainly snow up in the north after some early quick rain. it will be rain changing over to wet snow in the i-95 corridor. again basically acting like rain because we'll be well above freezing and mainly rain down to the south and we're also looking region by region at different issues from the storm. up in the northern and western suburbs this will be the hardest hit area with heavy wet snow branches down am i have concerns about power lines possibly coming down where that heavy wet snow piles up on branches and wires. again, in the central portion of the region we begin as rain. we turn to wet snow a-slushy accumulation mainly on grassy surfaces around the central portion of the region. down the shore a soaking rain maybe a flake or two but certainly not great conditions out there. current temperatures well above freezing everywhere even up in allentown so it's all

rain for now. 50 degrees currently in philadelphia. and we're going to have a test on patience today, kids, because we are going to have some slow conditions coming home from school this afternoon with that wet snow falling. by noon we're down to 38. probably staying on or about that by 3 o'clock and then 36 in philadelphia. again, these are philadelphia temperatures. farther north and west you'll be a little bit on the colder side. future tracker 6 tracking the arrival and departure of all of this coming up in a couple minutes, karen. >> all right, david. we hit the roads right now, as mentioned a little bit of light drizzle out there so no weather related problems just yet. live in downingtown, traffic moving nicely just a couple cars out there eastbound headed towards exton. we did have an accident involving a tractor-trailer on the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound. they're still dealing with the cleanup that of so they're actually blocking now the center lane, the right lane and shoulder so a lot blocked right now even though the accident happened before midnight on the turnpike eastbound near fort washington. just watch for that. and also fairview avenue and

rosemont avenue an accident out here in ambler. looking outside schuylkill expressway near montgomery drive looking pretty good. no problems out there. the roads basically dry. all lanes opened. the overnight construction just cleared a minute ago. that's your westbound traffic headed towards the boulevard and moving nicely. and it's just some construction here in maple shade in burlington county so watch for 73 both ways south of 38 blocking two lanes, matt. >> karen thanks so much. well, the wintry mix is bound to mess up prethank giving day travel. sky 6 hd taking a live look at philadelphia international airport. this is hardly the busiest travel day of the year but plenty of people will be using planes trains and automobile to get to their seat at the turkey day table. katherine scott is lie inside the airport to continue our coverage. katherine reporter: matt, yeah, things could get ugly today with the storm coming. there is the potential for delays and cancellations if you head out to the airport but we're not there yet. it is early so of course there

is a ways to go here before we call this a victory, but so far so good here at the airport this morning. people are arriving checking in getting their baggage. a lot are looking at the board and seeing that their flight is on time so far. they're hoping to get out before that changes because before midnight last night, airlines had pre-emptively canceled more than 200 flights for today with the storm approaching. nearly half of those cancellations were at newark and la guardia. many airlines are waiving change fees for passengers flying today for airports in the path of the storm. phl is one of them. aaa says there are about 580,000 people in the philadelphia area traveling this thanksgiving. that's a 4% increase from last year and most of those people are going by car but however they're traveling even with that storm coming, many do whatever they can to get where they want to go. >> i think one of the things about the thanksgiving holiday is people want to be with their family and friends so they'll do whatever they can at this particular holiday to make that trip and i think

probably if you miss it you might be more inclined to make that trip by christmas or the year end holidays if you miss it this time around. >> reporter: and of course one of the problems is because this is already such a busy travel day, flights were already packed before there was word of this storm so it's just harder to accommodate passengers whose flights get canceled or passengers who want to change their travel plan. the best thing to do we're hearing from aaa and the airport is to check your flight before you head out to the airport. live at phl, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> very good advice katherine. here's another look at the roads. looking down over penn's landing, i-95 near the ben franklin bridge. at this hour those roads are clear. they're dry and you can see traffic is moving along nicely but that could change as the morning goes on. so we'll check back in with karen for the latest in traffic in just a few minutes. if you're hitting the roads today or any time this weekend make sure you take "action news" with you. download that 6abc mobile app. i uses it all the time. you can get the latest from

accuweather as well as updated traffic conditions and you know what, it's free for both apple and android. >> the protests continued for a second night in ferguson, missouri and while these demonstrations were nowhere near as violent as the day before, they still brought huge crowds face to face with police on the streets. abc's karen travers is live in ferguson and has more on the exclusive interview with the police officer at the center of the controversy. good morning, karen. >> reporter: good morning, matt. it was relatively quiet and calm overnight compared to the previous night's violence and chaos. there was a significantly stepped up law enforcement effort. there were 700 national guard troops here in ferguson on monday night, 2200 on tuesday night and that may have prevented things if escalating into violence. demonstrators gather overnight at the ferguson police department headquarters. county police used tear gas to disrupt some who burned a police car and there were reports of some vandalism.

>> we saw some protesters out there that were really out there for the right reason. unfortunately there seems to be a few people that are bent on i think preventing this from happening in the most ideal way that it possibly could. >> reporter: darren wilson speaking out for the first time exclusively to abc's george stephanopolous. he described a very physical struggle with michael brown inside his police suv. >> as i'm holding him i see him coming back around with his left hand and it's in the shape like this and it comes through the window and just a solid punch to the right side of my face. >> reporter: you're still sitting there figuring out how do i get out of this. >> yes, the next thing was how do i survive. >> reporter: how do you survive. >> yes. i didn't know if i would be able to withstand another hit like that. >> reporter: is there anything you could have done differently? that would have prevent they had killing from taking us. >> no. >> reporter: nothing. >> no. >> reporter: in dozens of cities around the nation last night, large crowds of peaceful demonstrators took to the streets demanding justice for brown.

president obama last night in chicago said he had no sympathy for demonstrators who destroyed their own communities. >> i've never seen a civil rights law or a healthcare bill or an immigration bill result because a car got burnt. it happened because people vote. it happened because people mobilized. it happened because people organized. >> reporter: law enforcement officials say there are still some people here who are intent on violence but they believe their stepped up efforts could bring a sustained calm. reporting live from ferguson, missouri, karen travers channel6 "action news. >> karen thank you for bringing us the latest. >> david is here. the rain just about everywhere but not everyone is going to see the snow. >> no, from about philadelphia south, probably not much snow and even in philadelphia, it's mainly a little bit on grassy surfaces. northern and western suburbs a different story. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows you we have some very light precipitation that's overtaking a good

portion of the region. a lot of that lighter green you see from philadelphia north, however, is so light that a lot of it is evaporating before it hits the ground n some cases all you're seeing is drizzle. down into maryland and maybe parts of south jersey we're starting to see that darker shade of green and that's a little better indication of rain that is perhaps building in. it's all fairly light right now, though. as we take a look at temperatures you are still kind of mild out there. 50 degrees in philadelphia. as we take a look at the airport, well, you can see how we're still basically dry down there. 44 degrees in allentown -- or in trenton right now. still 38 in allentown, so a little cooler up north and this is the area where we're going to see that changeover from rain to wet snow a little sooner, perhaps after the rush hour this morning. we'll be watching that very carefully. but down in philadelphia it could take until midday before we start to see a bit of a change. 7 o'clock view on future tracker 6 shows that you we are still looking at all rain. eventually by about 8 o'clock we might see some pockets of wet snow beginning to develop but it's really later in the

morning up around 9 or 10 o'clock that we have a better chance of the cold air moving in and changing these northern and western suburbs over to wet snow. you'll notice that this line of demarcation the changeover line is right about where that winter storm warning for today takes effect. down here it's an advisory and we're not expecting as much of a compromised road condition situation but up here we're. up until 2 o'clock again most of the snow from about philadelphia north and pretty much the same story up until dinner hour. the latest run of future tracker 6 does have a changeover a little farther south briefly at the end of this and then by about 9 or 10 o'clock most areas are basically starting to dry out at that point. what are we expecting on the ground? about 1 to 3 inches of grassy accumulation just on grassy surfaces in the i-95 corridor and all these communities that you see labeled on either side of the delaware river. then you step up into the northern and western suburbs. this is where you could go anywhere from three to six. allentown is going to be very close to that 6-inch line even

more up in the poconos and it's up in these areas where roads are liable to be the worst. on the roads today mainly wet along the i-95 corridor. it will turn slushy in the northern and western suburbs. we'll have big wet snowflakes coming down at times this afternoon in particular and that's going reduce visibilities. also we have an issue with the heavy wet snow building up on wires and tree branches along with gusts of 30 miles per hour we could see some branches down and possible power outages much again i'm thinking the best chance of that is up in the northern and western suburbs where obviously we have higher accumulation on the way. today we are overall looking at temperatures sliding into the 30's probably holding in the mid to upper 30's in philadelphia with rain and wet snow. cloudy conditions obviously and a bit breezy, tone 20 miles per hour winds and higher gusts. there you see how those numbers are going to settle into the 30's. now again these are philadelphia numbers. in the northern and western suburbs we'll be a little bit cooler. thanksgiving day parade tomorrow we are dry and chilly. 8 o'clock in the morning 33 degrees. by 10, 36.

at route win at pennsylvania avenue. you can kind of see under the street light here it's drizzling a little bit. no big problems between trenton, morrisville bridge and the pennsylvania turnpike. so, looking pretty good out there at this hour. certainly you have light volume f you're worried about your traveling this is a good time to head out on the roads because it's just a little bit damp out there and looking pretty good. let's check some of your other regions right now. this is a live look at the roosevelt boulevard. this is southbound traffic right there headed towards the schuylkill. no problems other than it being a little bit damp out there. you're looking good here in east falls. on the pennsylvania turnpike near fort washington this is one thing we're watching this morning. not too many accidents out there but an accident involving a tractor-trailer happened just before midnight. they're still out there in the process of cleaning up so they're still blocking a couple of lanes. fairview avenue and rosemont avenue we have this accident in ambler as well. in camden some construction on 130 north of 168 blocking two lanes but not too many accidents out there and it's rather quiet. as we take a look at your

commuter traffic report right now, these are people just talking about construction zone there on the northeast extension. we can kind of scan all around, we're looking right now in whitemarsh. we talked about that earlier accident in ambler n-horsham, things are looking pretty good without too many people reporting any problems out there county line road, lower state road, we're kind of scanning all around the region and so far so good on the roads. let's look at these temperatures. we're talking about precipitation coming down, we know it's rain at 50 degrees in philadelphia and because of the mild conditions that's why david has been saying it's going to have a hard time stick to go any roads when that rain changes to snow a little bit later on. we're saying 45 degrees in millville but you're in the 30's right now in allentown and 36 degrees in mount pocono tam. >> thank you karen. well, it's not a sight many of us were expected to see this early in the season but snow will be here eventually and when it arrives penndot says it's ready. crews are making preparations to salt down roadways. they warn motorists some streets across our area may seem completely passable one minute but can turn treacherous as this cold blast

turns from rain to snow. penndot officials say when the snow begins nearly 500 trucks will be out there doing their job on the roads. >> if you come upon a snowplowing operations please keep back at least six car lengths back from our snowplowing operations. >> they suggest if you can delay your travel plans until the snow ends. penndot officials say they will not salt overnight because the rain would just wash it away. >> accuweather is forecasting the state of delaware to see less snow and mostly rain from this storm system. >> deldot's jim is joining us live on the phone. jim dorn to you and tell me us how you've been getting ready for the storm coming in. >> looks like we're having problems getting jim westhoff. one more chance for jim. do you hear us. >> i didn't know if you were talking to me or not. sorry. >> sorry about that, jim. we're just wondering how you're doing in delaware i'm wondering in you're going to send the plows out in kent and sussex county. new castle is the only place

eighth and vine so you've got good looking ride at this early hour. mass transit mostly on normal schedules today and new jersey transit will be cross honoring tickets because of the expected storm. the buses on new jersey transit are having a holiday schedule for the most part, dave. >> karen, the atmosphere is beginning to juice up a bit and on storm tracker 6 live double scan you see a lot of rain but most of this is very light in some cases just sprinkles from philadelphia north. little bit of yellow starting to show up in maryland, delaware and parts of south jersey but it's going to be a very gradual slide with that rain getting gradually thicker and then of course we start to change over to the wet snow f you're dressing the kids to head out the door early probably an umbrella would be a good idea even though rider now we're not really all that wet. this afternoon umbrellas may be a good idea as well especially in south jersey and even where the wet snow is falling and around the i-95 corridor or at least some sort of hood that will keep that wet snow off of them. satellite and radar the wide view shows you how this rain is overtaking the region. notice how there really isn't much of a changeover to snow

until you get out into the upper elevations of central and western west virginia and maryland. 41 degrees by 9 o'clock. then what was the spend most of the day in the 30's and you can see how we have precipitation all the way changing over to wet snow later this morning. tam, the northern and western suburbs hold the biggest concern for slippery roads later today. >> good to know david. a philadelphia lawyer is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old human trafficking victim. brian meehan allegedly paid to have sex with the victim. according to a grand jury report investigators found dna evidence during a recent search of the office. meehan had previously represented the girl's captors. they've also been charged in connection with this case. >> 4:54 on this wednesday and a reminder we have about five school closings that are listed on 6abc.com. >> and we've also powered up storm tracker 6 double scan. look at all that green. yes, it is tracking the storm as it charges up the coast. continues just ahead.
